The 5th International EcoSummit Congress, EcoSummit 2016 - Ecological Sustainability: Engineering Change, took place at The Corum Convention Centre, Montpellier from 29 August – 1 September 2016. This conference series was founded in 1996 in Copenhagen, as a forum to meet the demands of scientists working in several new ecological disciplines, and who required a better understanding of the concepts and methods for a holistic use of ecology in environmental management. 1500 delegates from 75 countries came to this event to hear 11 plenary presentations from some of the world’s premier ecologists and environmental scientists.
Shqipe and Victoria attended this summit to present their research in posters (which got invited for special publications). Also, they joined the citizen science workshop and will contribute to the creation of a joint paper in the topic with peers around the globe.
Victoria's poster was about data-intensive modeling for policy formulation. It made use of the rainbow model to solve a decision-making problem when identifying policy measures in an organization. This approach can help experts to understand the integration, aligning and re-usability of the elements/measures involved implementing policies in their organizations. The poster was designed in a case study context for a industrial wastewater treatment company.
Shqipe's poster was about applying design structure matrixes to formulation of environmental policy for industrial wastewater management. This study proposed an approach for managing complexity of environmental policy formulation for industrial wastewater management. It makes use of a systematic design to model the structure of complex policies and in this way contribute to reaching the economic, environmental and social sustainability in nations and organizations.
SIG-S3 would like to especially thank to the Research Foundation of Lappeenranta University of Technology (Tuukisätio) for the financial support for this summit participation.
